Birthday Adventures~ Part 1

The Never-ending Birthday.
I had a birthday that lasted a whole week this
year. I had a birthday wish/ treat/ present
everyday and it felt wonderful. So grateful.
*^____^*

1. So first I was taken out to dinner in Hongdae to the most mixed-themed and mixed vibe place
that I have found so far in Korea. Even
tful dinner involved breaking light bulb, food taken it's sweet time to get to our hungry bellys and Justin making a rather loud suggestion/ demand for "
More Wine!" that was timed well with a hush in the conversation so that the waitre
ss nearly jumped to obey his command. ^^

2. The next day we went to the G-Design Festival; to be the token foreigners it turns out. So a 'quick' opening ceremony and then the best of chic and kind of um... unnecessary green designs that Korea has to offer.

My friends Kristi and Laura sending me some love and a stop-motion waterfall, really fun.

Birthday Treasures

Birthday Treasures

I turned 23 on the 12th. I have the most amazing friends it turns out and was made to feel very special. I will blog about what they did but I wanted to make a specific post on the treasures that they gave me.

These are all shots from the book that Laura made for me. She made it for me from 'trash'/ recycled stuff. I LOVE it. It's full of beautiful things. Quotes, textures, stamps, wahsee tape, Polaroids, doliees and SO many little pockets and secret amazing-ness.

Then there was another treasure that was just given to me, like that's what people do or something.

This is an amazing art journal that my friend Che Kershaw ( of Indieberries: http://indieberries.blogspot.com/). She used some of photos and made them into th most beautiful art pages. She left the rest of the book blank for me to use and to make beautiful.

And then there is my sweet top hat/ alice band combo from Kristi:

It is lovely. :)
I have talented and lovely friends.

Thoughts on Inception ~ Part 1.

Totems

~They act as 'guides' back to reality and the essence of each totem is that of a part of a game.

~It is only one piece so who are has the rest of the pieces and who else is playing?

~Do they play by the rules, if so, then why does the one character play with loaded dice? They are about lowering the risk. It indicates the high stakes games that the character is playing by delving into dreams, but the dice are loaded and so the risks are calculated ones.

~The other totems however have only the possibility of failing or succeeding. The chess piece 'falls' when it fails and is out of the game, so her testing of reality is an on off thing. It is similar with the top, but the top can fall if the caster is not careful. It shows the ambiguity of his reality and the tendency of leaning one way or the other. The top will eventually fall, but the chess piece may continue to stand. The top is not an accurate means of testing reality.

~ Also, since the top belonged to Mal, Dom Cobb has in fact adopted her reality and her grip on it. The top's very nature is about abandonment and a lack of rules (except the completely basic and raw principles of reality) and is precarious. The spinning movement induces a watchful trance and a attentive tension. it's 'failure' is time-related, it's only a matter of 'when' and not 'if' it will fall. Playing with the top is about enjoying a moment that cannot last.

Dom Learns to Run- Part I

I set myself a goal. (It's to motivate and terrify me)

On the of October, I will (in sign-up theory) be running my first 5km racey thing.
It's in Paju (in Korea where I live) and other people will be doing 10km's, half and full marathons... I know my limitations and 5km is plenty of challenging enough for me.

So... Dom as a beginner runner:
Walks fine, brisk pace.
Runs fine, for about 1min, then needs to slow down so she can breath again (picture me hyperventilating myself 'cos I haven't figured out how to breath while I run)
She always makes sure to do a last little run/jog down the hill to the back-gate so the guards will no think less of her.

So this section of my blog will be about my: progress, frustrations and thoughts on this whole running bit.

I got a package from home...

My mom sent it and it contained all the things a mom
my feels that her distant daughter needs.

Things such as:
  • Deodorant (that is not so common in Korea),
  • Mr.Price T-shirts,
  • Vegetarian multi-vitamins (including Korean Ginseng),
  • Delicious chocolate from SA,
  • And bits and pieces including stickers from the Mr Price Pro surfing series (a big event in my little hometown).

All these goodies just make life more livable. This is not just because I am obviously brain-washed into needing/wanting certain brands/types of chocolates and things, but because each one was chosen by a mommy determined to look after her daughter from a great great distance.
